Sonoran Desert habitat type: Playas

These are low-lying areas in the valley bottoms that periodically collect rainwater. They may be covered with water for short periods, but most of the time they are dry. Soils usually contain a lot of silt and even clay and are poorly drained. A number of species occur here that would not be found in upland areas.
